The importance of intuition and how to strengthen yours
Intuition can be a super power. If you tune in, recognise and listen to it. Sounds easy right? Well it can be…
See I've always been super intuitive and I thought everyone had strong intuition. But truth is, some do, some don’t, but we all have intuition to a degree. For example, have you ever walked into a room with a group of people, and thought something’s not right here? Or the opposite? Wow, the vibe here feels great! Well, you are reading the collective energy of the room. Like an uneasy feeling when walking down a street… something kicks in and tells you “this isn’t right”.
Well these messages are available to you all the time, not just in emergencies or in a general sense. When you understand intuition, you can start using it as a decision making tool in your life.
What does intuition look like?
I’ve written about the different senses here, what is known as our “clairs”, and this is a great starting point for understanding how intuition shows up. Our intuition comes in the form of gut feelings, inner knowings, a voice outside of ourselves, a thought or a sense.
I’ve been asked before how do you know the difference between intuition and the human self - anxiety that also shows up in the gut/stomach or a riddle of thoughts? The difference is how it comes in, how it feels and what is said. For example, if your human anxiety is stopping you from doing something, you often will feel sick and thoughts will be led with “I” - meaning “I can’t do this”, “I don’t want to do this”, “This is scary” and it will be intense and on repeat.
When it is our intuition, it drops in quite suddenly, seemingly from nowhere and it doesn’t make you feel sick. It feels quite strong, sounds clear, and feels unexplainable. It doesn't need to make logical sense. It cuts through the white noise - the human mind that can be busy and chaotic. It will also always be positive or seeking a positive outcome for you.
The importance of intuition
Intuition is your inner guidance system telling you what to do (some call it your soul, I call it your spirit team - it really doesn’t matter). Unfortunately we aren't taught to listen to it. In fact, we are more likely told to not listen to it and become analytical in our mind second guessing it when it does comes in. When we do this, we get in the way of heeding its advice. Every time I've found myself in a period where life feels like it's flowing, it’s because I’ve listened to the nudges.
When we are listening and acting on the nudges, things somehow fall into place better than if you try to plan things out. We may not always know the outcome and I think that’s where people can get stuck - the need to know. Yet our intuition comes in step by step, one thing at a time. You have to keep on listening… the whole plan doesn’t come all at once. You aren’t going to know the whole plan with exact certainty and clarity. It doesn’t work that way.
You have to work with a high degree of trust - your intuition points you in a direction, asks that you trust it and rarely explains itself. And this is where the growth comes in. Because when you listen to your intuition, you gain confidence as you see the outcomes of doing so. The people you are meant to meet, experiences you are meant to have, the opportunities that change your life or even versions of yourself you never saw coming. Then in turn, you learn to listen and trust more often - you strengthen your intuition.
How to strengthen your intuition
Intuition is like a muscle. And just like going to the gym to build body muscle, we have to work at it. It doesn’t come from just thinking about it. It requires understanding, attention and a bit of practise.
The first step is noticing it. It can be quite subtle so we have to quieten the mind a little as we walk through life. These daily practises can help you strengthen your intuition:
Sitting daily in the energy field that surrounds you - it looks like meditation but isn’t - notice the feelings in your body, thoughts that drop in, and knowings. Feel the energy field around you. Write down what you notice.
Ask clear questions and listen for the answer. Responses come from within and around your body - not your frontal cortex, the human thought centre located at the front of your head.
Pay attention and acknowledge the signs that happen - don’t dismiss them as coincidence - they are messages of support, your nudges.
Write down your experiences: patterns, repeating numbers, synchronicities, dreams, the different senses - learn how your intuitive nudges show up.
Practise listening! Act on your guidance - each time you listen and act, you make it stronger.
Clear your energy daily. Learn how to do that here.
Live your best life
Intuition is the way the spirit world connects with us - nudging you this way and that through life. Sometimes it might feel scary because it doesn’t make sense, but the more you learn to trust it, the more you start to realise your intuition is there to help you. It’s your spirit team cheering you on to live your best life.
