Spirit team or spirit guides, what do we call our unseen helpers?

Often we hear people speak about spirit guides, our unseen helpers who support, guide and protect us throughout life. And quite often, I hear people get very hung up on who their spirit guides are, or sometimes more pointedly, who their spirit “guide” is.

In truth, we are supported by a whole bunch of unseen helpers from different realms, working together as a team to support us through life. I prefer to think of them as a collective, and not worry too much about who is giving me the information. They are my spirit team. This shifts the focus on the information that comes through, and less on who is giving the information. Your spirit team is here to help you, and there is more than one on that team.

From spirit guide to spirit team

Traditionally, the concept of a spirit guide refers to one specific being assigned to assist a person for their lifetime. While this idea can be comforting, it’s also feels limiting. In reality, guidance can come from many different sources, each offering wisdom and support at various points in our journey. Yes, we have an assigned spirit guide for life, but also additional guides come in and out of our lives depending on what we need, much like mentors or teachers who appear during different stages of our lives.

So who forms your spirit team? Your spirit team can include a wide variety of guides, such as:

  • Your spirit guide for life

  • Loved ones in spirit

  • Beings from other realms

  • Ascended masters

Yes, your passed over loved ones can act like guides too, continuing or choosing to support you in spirit form. Also, energies from fairy or angelic realms that bring joy, healing, or inspiration. And then there’s ascended masters…..

Ascended masters are spiritual beings at the highest level of consciousness and no longer part of the cycle of life and death. Examples include figures such as Jesus Christ, Buddha or other enlightened teachers who embody higher consciousness and compassion. When we refer to these ‘gods’ it’s important to note, this is in a spiritual framework, not a religious frame of reference.

Personal connection and experience

In my spirit team I have four passed over loved ones: two close friends who are with me nearly every single day. Sometimes one of them disappears for a bit but it always changes. As mentioned above, members of your spirit team will come and go as needed. It can be surprising who steps forward to campaign for you and support you as you are faced with life’s challenges. I also have my grandma and uncle.

I also have two ascended masters that show themselves from time to time. And yes, I have met my assigned guide, and other guides who are unrecognisable to me. All of my spirit team show themselves in my mind’s eye, my third eye when present. This is when I am connecting with my spirit team each morning.

Why do I like to say spirit team?

Because we have many unseen helpers, and more than one spirit guide. The term ‘spirit team’ acknowledges all of our unseen helpers and they LOVE acknowledgment.

Adopting the idea of a spirit team invites us to recognise the abundance of help available from the unseen world. Rather than focusing on a single guide, we open to the possibility of many unseen helpers working together for our wellbeing and growth.

In summary…

The unseen world is rich with wisdom and love — a network of energies ready to assist you. When you acknowledge your unseen helpers, you strengthen the bridge between our world and theirs. They are, quite literally, eager to help.

So let’s blow the traditional notion of a single spirit guide out of the water, and expand our sense of connection and support.

Have you got experience with knowing who is on your spirit team? If so, I would love to hear. Drop it in the comments.
