Spirit connection is NOT or doesn’t need to be hooky spooky

Spirit connection is all hooky spooky, witch like and full of spells. Wrong.

It’s something that really irks me about this space, those that reinforce that it is hooky spooky, witch like and full of spells. Does it really need to be? Can spirit connection not just be your everyday? Because bottom line is we all have a sixth sense, we all can read a room (“I just walked in and could sense this tension”, as an example). It’s not hooky spooky to read a room or follow that gut feeling to do or say something that we simply can’t explain… so are the talents of those who take these abilities to next level really hooky spooky?

Let me break it down for you as a psychic medium who has had to navigate these waters…

And I mean I get it. It can be pretty freaky for someone who has never met you to be able to tell you things about yourself with no way they could have known. Or connect with a passed loved one, describing them and passing on messages who they have never met. So what is a psychic medium and how do they work?

The difference between psychic and mediumship

Working psychically is connecting with your energetic field and spirit guides (or universe, however you want to dress it up), to bring clarity around specific issues and/or making decisions. It’s centred in their everyday life.

Each psychic works differently, but the way I do readings is to share what is coming through and finishing with time for the person to ask specific questions. You don’t need to have questions when you go to a reading, but I’m learning more and more that even if people say they have no questions, they secretly do!

With mediumship, this is connecting to a person’s loved ones in the spirit world. And this can be either a person or animal. I connect with both. First factual information comes through that only the person having the reading can validate. Then messages, guidance or encouragement/support will often come through from the spirit person.

The information comes through in the same way - through senses. For me, I see, hear, know and sense information from the spirit world, and sometimes all at once.

How come some have this ability and others don’t?

In my experience, it’s those that are super-sensitive that seem to have this as a natural ability to tune into the spirit world over others. They are so sensitive to others and the outside world, their psychic senses come very naturally and easily. For me, I had my first vision the year I turned 13 riding home on a bus from World Expo 88. I saw Mother Teresa in the back of a bus seat. Yep it freaked me out! I looked away and back again many times to test what I thought was a hallucination but it wasn’t going away. Is that normal? Not for everyone, but for those that have these abilities at a more heightened level, yes.

Hooky spooky or just plain normal?

So is this all hooky spooky? It doesn’t have to be. Sure back in the day, this was the work of witches who were burnt at the stake for these abilities. I’m glad we’ve moved on! But yes, some of these beliefs still exist. It makes “coming out” (as we say in the psychic world) scary for some. Some never do.

The bottom line though - it’s all about energy and connecting with different levels of that. Simple as that.
